How do I start a Request to Rely on an External IACUC?

Login into iRIS
On the study assistant dashboard, select Create a New Study to open the online application.
Then select TAMU-CC IACUC Application to open the IACUC application.
Once you reach Section 4.0 Submission type, select Request to Use another IACUC.
Once the application is complete, you will be forwarded to the submission packet.
Attach any supporting documents and complete the PI sign-off to submit.

A Request to Rely or External IACUC Application in iRIS is when an investigator makes a request to their IACUC to utilize a reliance agreement (either as the ‘Reviewing Site’ or the ‘Relying Site’). This type of submission is used when funding is acquired by TAMU-CC but all animal work will occur at another organization and it is most efficient to have the animal use permit be reviewed by the IACUC at the collaborating institution.

Even when Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s IACUC will not review a protocol, it is important that we have record of the research conducted at TAMU-CC that is under the jurisdiction of another IACUC.

Although IACUC review will be conducted elsewhere, there are other ancillary reviews that may need to occur at TAMU-CC (conflict of interest, export control, radiation safety review, etc.). Entering the protocol in iRIS will allow these reviews to occur.

Once a reliance agreement has been executed for TAMU-CC to rely upon (cede review to) another IACUC, the TAMU-CC PI is responsible for obtaining all regulatory protocol information (approved protocol, approval letters, etc.) from the IACUC of Record.

Any questions or required reporting will need to go through the PI at the reviewing IACUC site.

You will no longer interact with the TAMU-CC IACUC or TAMU-CC Office of Research Compliance for protocol issues related to that research.
