Distance Student Grievance Process

Important Note for Prospective Students: If you are considering an academic program that leads you to obtaining professional licensure in your state, it is highly recommended that you contact the appropriate licensing agency in your state to seek information and additional guidance before beginning a program outside of your state.

Student Complaints: Students who are enrolled in a Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi course who have a complaint about a course or experience should follow Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s complaint, grievance, and appeal procedures.

If a student located in a State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement (link is external) (SARA) state has a complaint about Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, complaints must first go through the TAMU-CC standard procedure for resolution of student grievances. If a student is not satisfied with the outcome of that process, a complaint involving allegations of fraudulent activity, including the provision of false or misleading information, may be brought to the Texas SARA portal entity, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB).

Process

Procedure for Student Grievance Against a Texas Institution of Higher Education to THECB:
After exhausting the institution’s grievance/complaint process, current, former and prospective students may initiate a complaint with the THECB.

Required Documentation

Before initiating an investigation, the THECB must receive the following:

A fully completed and signed THECB Student Complaint and Authorization Forms [PDF] - (Complaints from students with disabilities must also include an Authorization to Disclose Medical Record Information Form [PDF] if the complaint in any way involves alleged discriminatory treatment as a result of the disabilities);
Documentation of the student’s completion of the institution’s complaint or grievance procedures, including the ultimate outcome of the procedures; and
Evidence to support the complaint, such as copies of correspondence, enrollment agreements, course catalog information, and any other information believed to be relevant to the matter of the complaint.

Submission of Documentation

Completing the online student complaint form and uploading the required supporting documentation in Portable Document Format (PDF). To access the online student complaint form, submit an email to the THECB through the "Contact Us" link with "Student Complaint Against a Higher Education Institution" selected as the Contact Reason. A few moments after the email is submitted, the online student complaint form will be presented for use.
Submitting the required student complaint forms and documentation by email to studentcomplaints@thecb.state.tx.us. Email attachments should be submitted as PDF documents. or
Mailing the required student complaint forms and documentation to Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Office of General Counsel, P.O. Box 12788, Austin, Texas 78711-2788.*

*Documents received by the THECB cannot be returned so original documents should not be submitted. Students are encouraged to retain a copy of their complaint and all documents submitted. Facsimile (faxed) transmissions of the forms are not accepted.

If a student pursues a grievance with the Texas SARA portal entity, the SARA portal entity in the state where the student is located will be notified that the complaint was received and may assist as needed. Resolution of the complaint by the SARA portal entity in the institution's home state is final.

Examples of types of student complaints that may be brought to a SARA portal entity include, but are not limited to, complaints regarding accuracy of job placement data, tuition or fee information, accreditation, whether a program meets licensure requirements, or course transfer information. Grade appeals and student conduct appeals are not allowed under SARA.

You may also file a complaint with TAMU-CC's regional accrediting agency, SACSCOC. Complete the Commission's Complaint Form (PDF) and send two print copies to:
