Below are frequently asked questions about the Technology Management Program (TMP). TMP provides quality, cost-effective computing device replacements to TAMU-CC faculty, staff, labs and classrooms at regular intervals.
Technology Management Program
The University is enacting the Technology Management Program (TMP) to get full-time faculty and staff upgraded computer technology regularly. It also aims to replace outdated technology with high powered mobile technology, enabling our workforce to respond to natural disasters and campus closures. The TMP will also reduce computing devices' duplication, such as the need to have desktops and mobile devices.
This effort will streamline budgeting, reduce duplication, increase standardization and decrease deployment times of new devices. Our employees heavily rely on computer technology to accomplish the University's mission, and we want to ensure everyone has up to date computer technology possible.
Full-time faculty and staff will be eligible for the program. See more details at the Computer Request Guidelines. If you feel that your classification is incorrect in Workday, please contact HR or your manager.
The primary computer is the computer that IT has designated as the computer you use most often. At the beginning of the program a survey will be sent out which requires response in determining your primary computer. Records will be kept up to date moving forward as devices are replaced.
The survey responses at the beginning of the program determine the Primary Computer. If you don't recall the information, please submit a General IT Service request in the Service portal requesting this information.
If you qualify for the TMP based on the Computer Request Guidelines, the TMP covers the costs of the Standard Computer setup. Areas that operate as Service Centers, Auxiliaries, or Research/Student funded departments will need to allocate funding for computer replacements.
We recommend first trying the standard computer. Evidence gathered will be helpful when filing an exception process. Exceptions will take additional time to process as there are multiple approval levels to navigate and funds from the department are required. See the notes on Exceptions on Computer Request Guidelines.
The replacement computer is tied to the job in that department. If you do move, you will inherit the computer that was being used in that position.
DoIT will reach out to you when your computer is identified as being due for replacement. We recommend always reaching out for support to the IT Service Desk by submitting a General IT Service Request in the Service Portal if you are having any computer related issues so there is a ticket to track all issues. Schedules for replacements are listed on the Replacement Cycle Guidelines.
An email will come to your TAMU-CC email confirming the configuration assigned. A ticket will be generated when you reply and DoIT will coordinate with you to ensure data from the old computer is synchronized with OneDrive. A time will be scheduled to install the new computer and software needed. An Off Campus Property form will need to be completed at the time of delivery. The old computer will be picked up when the new equipment is delivered.
The old computer is taken back with DoIT at the time the new computer is installed or delivered. Old computers are refurbished and redistributed to part-time faculty or staff as equipment is available.
Only the Primary Computer is eligible for TMP. An exception would be needed to upgrade the other devices and your department would fund those costs.
Yes. Information Technology will be working with all self-funded areas to identify the technology needs and approximate the yearly budget for their replacement cycle. They will need to conform to the standards presented by the TMP program.
DoIT will provide a link to the commonly used technology items for your department to purchase. These will not be part of the Technology Management Program at this time.
The exemption process will need to be followed for this request. Approval and funding by your department is part of that process.
