Management path: The potential career for this path is the Chief Information Officer (CIO). At first, an MIS professional will enter the organization as a business or systems analyst, progressing into technical management and, after significant management experience could be qualified to be the CIO.
The duties of a CIO are acquisition assessment, strategic business planning, asset management, capital planning and investment, capital planning and investment, and business process and change management decision making.
Technical path: The potential career for this path is the Chief Technology Officer (CTO). At first, an MIS professional may enter the organization as a developer, progress to senior developer and after significant management experience could be promoted to CTO. The duties of a CTO are overall architecture and technical standards creation, systems engineering, network security, test and evaluation, and data management.
