2.3 Seizures and Physical Reactions

Do not design content in a way that is known to cause seizures.

Overview

Seizures due to photosensitivity are reduced as we age, but there is no assurance that individuals will not come to our website or watch our videos without a triggered physical reaction. Make sure none of your content uses animations that cause:

  • three flashes or more in one second of the visual content
  • flashes above general flash or red flash thresholds

These are typically better understood as blinking or flashing content, however, some animations or movement that is very quick can also trigger this threshold. To better understand where your video content is within these thresholds, you can test with the University of Maryland Trace Research and Development Center's Photosensitive Epilepsy Analysis Tool (PEAT).
