Insurance

The State provides premiums toward health insurance on the 1st of the month after 60 days of employment. The amount varies based on the coverage selected. Optional Benefits include Alternate Basic Life, AD&D, Dental, Vision, and Long Term Disability.

Time Off

Holiday

Employees receive 12 to 15 holidays per year.

Vacation

Vacation leave can be used after six months of Texas State employment.  Faculty who have a 12-month appointment are eligible for vacation.  Vacation accrual rate increases according to years of Texas State service.

Sick

Sick leave accrual and eligibility for its use begins on the first day of employment.  Sick leave accrues at eight hours per month.

Tuition Benefits

Tuition Benefits

You may be able to receive loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full-time.

Betterment Program

Employees are eligible for tuition reimbursement through the Employee Betterment Program after completion of three months of regular employment.

Retirement Plans

Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS)

Each month the employee contributes 8% of earning to TRS and the state contributes 7.75%.

Optional Retirement Program (ORP)

Faculty and eligible administrative/professional staff may elect to participate in ORP. Each month the employee contributes 6.65% of earnings towards ORP and the state contributes 6.6%. 

The State Contribution to retirement programs is subject to change.

Wellness Opportunities

Use of gym facilities for employees at a set fee per semester.  Wellness Programs include reimbursement program, free walking program and Free Friday entry into Dugan Wellness Center.  Faculty and Staff also are granted Work-Release Time with Supervisor approval.

Compensation

Longevity 

After two years of service, full-time non-faculty employees receive longevity pay of $20.00 per month. Longevity increases at the end of each two-year period thereafter.

Hazard Duty Pay

Commissioned peace officers in a hazardous duty position are entitled to hazardous duty pay of $10 per month for each 12 month period of accrued lifetime service credit.
