Eligibility and Application Process

Students must be enrolled for at least one semester of the current or upcoming academic year at Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi.

Students must be working towards their first bachelor's degree.

• This is defined by neither parent for whom the student regularly resides with and receives support from has a four year baccalaureate degree at time of application submission

• This is updated yearly based on the US Department of Education Federal TRIO Program Current-Year Low-Income Levels

• Students must be registered with TAMUCC Disability Services

• Need for academic support to raise grades in required courses/academic major
• Lack of educational and/or career goals
• Low high school grades or admission test scores
• And others based on individual need

• Use only Blue or Black ink
• Please print clearly
• No white out
• Complete the application in its entirety
• Sign and date application

Students who are under the age of 24 and answered NO to all questions in Step 6 must have a parent signature. Applications missing signatures will not be processed.

Please attach a copy of documentation of disability from the Disability Services office at the time of submission (if applicable).

Expect an email or phone call with follow-up questions or to schedule an interview for admission to the program within 3-4 business days of submitting your application. 

Each student is assigned to an SSS-STEM staff member who they will meet with regularly to work towards their academic, financial, and career goals.

At minimum, students are expected to meet with their staff member once a month. Meetings can be held in person, online via WebEx, over the phone, or via email.

Workshops are held throughout ongoing semesters covering a wide range of topics related to academic skills, financial literacy, careers, cultural events, self-care/wellness, and more.

At minimum, students are expected to attend 2 workshops per semester (Fall, Spring, and Summer). Workshops can be held in person, virtually, and as recorded videos available to students.

Based on the terminology of our grant, a student is considered First Generation if the parent(s) for whom they regularly reside with and receive support from DO NOT have a 4-year degree. 

This would allow for a student to have a parent with an Associate's Degree to be considered First Generation.

Step 6 of the SSS-STEM Application asks for the taxable, NOT total, income of the previous year. This information can be found:

Unfortunately, students must be working towards their first bachelor's degree to be eligible for SSS-STEM. This means students working on a second bachelor's degree or are CURRENTLY enrolled for a master's, professional, or doctoral degree are NOT eligible.

Students who have an Associate's Degree (2-year) ARE eligible to apply.
