I-Know Overview

I‑Know was established as Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) for accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). First implemented in Fall 2020 and concluded in Summer 2025, the QEP successfully advanced digital information literacy across the university.

The I-Know program itself continues its mission, to support and enhance digital information literacy instruction for all TAMU-CC students across majors and throughout their college journey. I-Know defines Digital Information Literacy (DIL) as the ability to find, evaluate, create, and communicate information effectively and responsibly, using the appropriate technology. I-Know teaches students DIL

I-Know lives within the Mary and Jeff Bell Library. Although centered in the library, this program is a campus-wide initiative. This plan lays out an intentional, scaffolded integration of DIL into the TAMU-CC curriculum.

I-Know Goal & Student Learning Objectives

To accomplish its goal, I-Know is focused on integrating DIL skills into the undergraduate TAMU-CC curriculum to prepare students to adapt and thrive in the next generation of technological innovations.

I-Know aims to do this through:

Partnering with teaching faculty, librarians and the Digital Learning & Academic Innovations department (DLAI) to integrate DIL into the curriculum of TAMU-CC undergraduate students at various points across their college careers.
Establishing a common understanding of DIL across the TAMU-CC Campus.

I-Know integrates DIL concepts into the academic careers of all undergraduate students at TAMU-CC. It outlines a scaffolded approach that includes 3 levels of Student Learning Objectives (SLO).

Illustrates the three scaffolded stages of the I-Know Digital Information Literacy Program that include the following: Find, Evaluate, Create, and Communicate.

SLO Level 1: Find focuses on teaching First-Year to identify and pursue effective digital approaches for accessing information, as well as assess the quality and relevance of their search results. Students will learn different search strategies for finding information, such as keyword searching, citation following, and search refining.

SLO Level 2: Evaluate is incorporated into select courses in prerequisite courses in major academic programs. Students learn how to evaluate a source’s credibility and suitability in the context of their information needs. This includes learning how to identify credible and appropriate sources for their assignments.

SLO Level 3: Create and Communicate is integrated in major capstone or research courses. Students focus on creating effective research questions based on curiosity and gaps in information. They also use technology to create knowledge, collaborate with others, or contribute to scholarly conversations.
