CREST-GEIMS Doctoral Fellowship

NSF CREST Center for Geospatial and Environmental Informatics, Modeling and Simulation
(NSF CREST-GEIMS)
Texas A&M University – Corpus Christi
Corpus Christi, Texas

The NSF CREST-GEIMS Center at TAMU-CC offers a competitive Fellowship to Ph.D. students pursuing doctoral degrees in Coastal and Marine Systems Science (CMSS) or Geospatial Computer Sciences (GSCS) at TAMU-CC.

The center programs include three integrated research subprojects.

  • Subproject 1: Geospatial Informatics - develops new approaches integrating remote and autonomous sensing with geospatial computing and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve coastal zone monitoring and resiliency decision making. It generates detailed and accurate geographic information systems data for characterization of the built and natural environment. Results will be integrated in subprojects 2 and subproject 3.

  • Subproject 2: Environmental Informatics - develops a better understanding of the urban water cycle and the resilience of water infrastructure through integrated characterization, simulation, and assessments.
  • Subproject 3: Coastal Community Resilience and Public Health - investigates how emerging data sources and advanced geospatial computing can be applied to evaluate, assist, and improve a coastal community’s physical, behavioral, and social health after disasters.

The CREST Center Doctoral Fellow will receive:

  • University tuition and fees coverage
  • Monthly Stipend:
    • with BS - $1800
    • with MS - $2200
    • with Ph.D candidacy - $2400
  • support for summer research experience at a collaborator site outside TAMU-CC
  • travel support for conferences or professional meetings, and other support.
In addition to degree program requirements, Center Fellows will also take up to three 3-credit graduate courses in in public policy/public administration areas.

Eligibility

• Graduate students (current or prospective) enrolled at TAMU-CC in either Coastal and Marine System Science or Geospatial Computer Sciences Ph.D. Programs.
• A U.S. citizen of underrepresented minority ethnicity (African Americans, American Indians, Native Alaskans, Hispanics, and Native Pacific Islanders).
