CAHSI-Sponsored Hackathons

Texas A&M University –Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) and the University of Houston –Downtown have worked with the Computing Alliance of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (CAHSI) for the past 15 years to host two Hackathons for students in the South Texas area.

  • December 2020 South Texas Hackathon:
    • Date: December 18th, 2020.
    • TAMUCC students/ 24 participants total (UHD, UH, UHV,UTRGV):
      • 1st Place: TAMUCC students –Raj Bhakta, Omar Lozoya, Michael Maiella.
      • 2nd Place: TAMUCC students –Taylor Converse, Tristan Raine, Gibran Rodriguez, Joseph Rangel.
      • 3rd Place: TAMUCC students–Braydon Burns, Jaron Burns, Minh Tri Nguyen, Christian Leal.
      • Faculty organizers:
        • TAMUCC: Dr. Saman DeSilva, Dr. Scott King, Dr. Carlos Rubio-Medrano.
        • UHD: Dr. Dvijesh Shastri.
  • April 2021 South Texas Hackathon:
  • Date: April 10th, 2021.
  • 22 TAMUCC participants / 61 total participants (UHD, UH, UHV, UTRGV, TAMUK)
    • 1st Place: TAMUCC students –Braydon Burns, Jaron Burns, Jesus Banda, Gibran Rodriguez
    • 2nd Place: TAMUCC students –Tristan Raine, Hammas Khan, Taylor Converse, Joseph Rangel

CAHSI-funded Student Travel to Hackathons.

Texas A&M University –Corpus Christi (TAMUCC) has worked with the Computing Alliance of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (CAHSI) for the past 15 years to support students in the Computer Science field. In order to provide the students with important experience outside of the classroom, we have sent them to a conference where they had the opportunity to compete in a Hackathon.

  • 2018: Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Conference (HENAAC) and Hackathon.
  • Students –Andrew Garcia, Isabel Garcia, Gabriel Alexis Guijarro Reyes, Kayleigh Movalli, Ana Ochoa, Cassandra Salomon.
  • 2019: Hispanic Engineer National Achievement Awards Conference (HENAAC) and Hackathon.
  • Students –Andrew Garcia, Cristina Magana, Fernando Gonzalez, Gabriel Alexis Guijarro Reyes, Jonie Moya, Juan Martinez, Kayleigh Movalli.
  • 2020: Great Minds in STEM (GMiS) Conference and Hackathon (virtual due to COVID).
