Judging the Regional Fair

We need STEM-focused university students, professionals, teachers and parents to serve as judges for the regional science fair. Parents and teachers can serve as judges outside of the division in which their children/students are competing.

Each participating school and/or district should assist in identifying and recruiting qualified judges.

What are a judge's responsibilities?

  • Be available the entire judging time for the division assigned.
  • Attend a 1-hour judges’ training at 7pm either the Wednesday or Thursday before the fair.
  • Check emails for meeting links and updates on your assignment.
  • Wear business casual attire when interacting with student participants.
  • Interview students about their projects.
  • Collaborate with other judges, score projects, and assign awards.

Judge benefits & qualifications

  • Grade K-5 judges must have started college.
  • Grade 6-12 judges must have either completed college or have significant science knowledge, like advanced coursework and field work in science.
  • Preferred qualifications are majors/careers in education or STEM fields
  • All judges will receive a t-shirt, a meal, and certificate of 3 continuing education credits.
