First-Time College Students (freshmen)

New first-year students (freshmen) must complete Islander Launch orientation before registering for classes at TAMU-CC. SPRING 2026 students will register for an asynchronous virtual course that will be completed on any date/time that works for you.

To complete the orientation registration process, students must:

Be admitted for spring 2026
Claim their Island ID/password
REGISTER HERE
Follow the instructions in the confirmation message sent to the student's Islander email.

SUMMER AND FALL 2026 registration will be available in February 2026. Event dates for new first-year students (freshmen) are listed below. Do not make travel plans until your event date is confirmed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What must I do before I can register for orientation? To complete the orientation registration process, students must:
- Be admitted for the upcoming term
- Claim their Island ID/password and set up Duo 2-factor authentication
- Use the Island ID/password to access their Islander email
How much does it cost to register for Islander Launch? The non-refundable fee of $85 per student is deferred at the time of reservation and billed as part of the fall tuition bill, even if you decide not to enroll at TAMU-CC.
What does the orientation fee cover? The fee covers all costs of offering a required orientation program.
Do I have to repeat the requirement if I completed an orientation program in a different semester? If you have been readmitted to the university and attended classes in a previous semester, you do not have to complete orientation again.
Is it possible for me to register for classes without completing orientation? No, a registration hold is placed on new student accounts, which will not be removed until after completing the Islander Launch (orientation) requirement.
I am a student in a fully online program. Which orientation should I complete? You will not complete Islander Launch; instead, you will be assigned an online orientation after you register for your classes. For more information, email online@tamucc.edu.
I am attending classes at the RELLIS campus. Which orientation should I complete? You will not complete Islander Launch. For more information, visit the RELLIS Student Orientation website.

Is there a specific day or time I should log in to complete the course? No, the course is asynchronous, so you can log in and complete the course at any time or day that works best for you.

How do I get my hold lifted? After you register for orientation, an automated confirmation message will be sent to your Islander email with instructions for completing the requirement. It can take up to 24 hours for you to have access to the Canvas course portal.
1. Log in to the Canvas portal using your Island ID/password.
2. Under Courses, select Islander Launch Orientation.
3. Plan to spend around 60 minutes completing the modules.
4. Score 100% on the quiz to complete the required course.
5. The hold on your account will be removed automatically within 24 hours.

How do I register for classes? After completing your required course, schedule an appointment with your Academic Advisor to choose classes that apply to your degree plan.
