How Do I Apply To The Program?
Application Criteria
Honors Program Description: The Honors Program at TAMUCC provides you the opportunity to challenge yourself as a scholar, to make a difference in your community, and to work and build collaborative relationships with your peers. All the students we accept will be eligible for one or more scholarships, will be offered a space in the Honors Residence Hall and will have the opportunity to study in a supportive environment in the Honors Lounge. Students graduate knowing that they have the skills necessary to succeed in the workplace and in graduate or professional schools.
Application Process: Points will be awarded to each applicant based on their GPA, a video of 2-3 minutes in length and an essay of no more than 2 pages (see below for prompts). High school seniors who wish to apply should have a GPA of 3.5 or above, based on TAMU-CC’s converted, 4-point scale. Current TAMU-CC sophomores and transfer students should have a GPA of 3.5 in completed college coursework.
Those who pass this first stage will be invited to interview with members of the Admissions Committee. Applicants will be notified within 14 days of their interview whether they have been accepted into the Program or placed on a waitlist.
Important Dates: We will review applications beginning November 15, 2022, and we will close applications on May 3, 2023, at 12:00pm.

Category 2 – Video Narrative - Up to 30 points
Instead of sending us the video, please use a video hosting site such as YouTube.com and send us the link to your presentation. Keep in mind there are three different privacy settings on many of these sites, which, similar to YouTube, allow you to post videos as either public, private, or unlisted. Please post your video as unlisted. This means that only the people who have the link will be able to view it.
Your video must respond to one of the following three prompts:
1) If you could witness any event – past, present or future-what would it be?
2) If you could teach a class on any topic that is not taught in school. What would it be and why?
3) Tell us about something good someone else did for you and how you felt about it?
Tips: 1) Rehearse the video before filming, but try not to memorize it, since rote speaking can be seen as mechanical, and we won’t get a chance to learn about you as a person. If you wish you may use note cards. 2) Tell a story (or present information) in a creative way that allows us to hear your voice. 3) We suggest you find a quiet place to film and that you choose a backdrop that does not detract from your presentation. 4) Please keep in mind that we are much more interested in the content of your video than its production value.
Please contact Professor Michelle Evans at michelle.evans@tamucc.edu for accommodations.
Category 3 - Writing Sample - Up to 10 points
This essay could have been previously submitted in one of your classes but must be submitted as a clean copy (no grades or teacher comments). The essay must describe either: 1) a non-traditional learning experience that benefited your education or 2) your experience serving the community. The sample will be scored based clarity of thought, language use and overall presentation.
Category 4 – Interview - Up to 20 points
You should be prepared for questions which draw on your writing sample and video, your high school experiences and your thoughts on social and university engagement.
