About

The TAMU-CC Opera Workshop provides students with comprehensive training for the modern singer/actor, culminating in a performance each semester on the stage of the Performing Arts Center.  Fall semester will typically be an evening of opera scenes or mixed repertoire with a full opera presented in the spring.  Opera Workshop is designed to cover multiple aspects of performance for the singing actor, many of which can be applied not only to opera but also to other theatrical styles.  This includes instruction on role preparation, character development, acting, movement, and improvisation.  Over the course of multiple semesters, students will be exposed to repertoire from opera, operetta, musical theatre, and experimental/improvisatory forms, and will have the opportunity to participate in innovative productions reimagining classic works in new ways.  The Opera Workshop also collaborates each semester with the departments of Theatre and Dance and Art in improvisation festivals designed to give students the opportunity to cross-train with their peers in related disciplines.
