Annually or at the request of the IBC, EHS will conduct inspections of the labs.

2. The Chief Research Compliance Officer, in collaboration with IBC and EHS, performs BSL-2/ABSL-2 Inspections.

Following the inspection, the Chief Research Compliance Officer/EHS will prepare an inspection report and send it to the IBC.

If the inspection reveals major, unacceptable deficiencies in laboratory biosafety practices or conditions, the IBC Chair will be immediately contacted to discuss appropriate actions, which may include stopping all laboratory work until biosafety conditions are met.

The IBC reviews the inspection report at a full board meeting. The Lab Supervisor/Principal Investigator may be asked to attend the meeting or can request to be present at the meeting by emailing ibc@tamucc.edu.

A report of the findings and corrective actions will be provided in writing to the protocol Lab Supervisor/Principal Investigator.

Corrective action follow-up: If corrective actions are required, the Lab Supervisor/Principal Investigator will respond in writing on or before the timeline determined by the IBC.

Lab Supervisors/Principal Investigators are responsible for ensuring compliance and safe work conditions. The labs are reviewed against the BMBL requirements for the Biosafety Level assigned to the lab.
