Academic Advising Update
MEMORANDUM
To: Islander Faculty and Staff
Subject: Academic Advising Update
Greetings Islander Faculty and Staff,
Effective academic advising may be the single most underestimated key to a successful college experience. Having the right model and the correct approach to academic advising is critical to student success. Over the past week, the Office of Student Success has consolidated the College Advising Units, which advise students with 46+ credits, into one location. This consolidation will allow Academic Advising to establish consistency in practice and policy, conduct cross-training across programs and colleges, more effectively serve all students throughout the University, distribute equitable and manageable caseloads, and ensure students receive a consistent, high-quality academic advising experience. Now that this transition is complete, our campus has two advising centers:
- Islander Advising Center (0-45 credits), located in University Services Center 126.
- Center for Academic Advising, Planning, and Success (46+ credits), located in Faculty Center 148.
We look forward to continuing to provide exemplary service to our students in this new location.
Thank You,
Jerel Benton, EdD
Associate Vice President for Student Success
