David Gurney Announced as Faculty Fellow
Academic Affairs at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi announces Dr. David Gurney as Faculty Fellow. Dr. Gurney will begin his service during the Spring 2022 semester.
Dr. David Gurney has been on faculty at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi since September 2010, serving first as an Assistant Professor of Communication and Media Studies before being promoted and later taking on the role of Chair for the Department of Communication and Media in 2016. Dr. Gurney helped to oversee the development and implementation of the Media Arts BA program and has remained active as a scholar in the field of media studies. More recently, he was chosen as a Fellow in the Texas Academic Leadership Academy for the 2021-2022 academic year.
Dr. Gurney’s primary responsibilities will support faculty affairs. In collaboration with the Chief Diversity Officer and the Center for Faculty Excellence, he will assist Academic Affairs in the development of a comprehensive approach to faculty recruitment and retention to ensure academic excellence and student success. With the implementation of Interfolio, Dr. Gurney will also assist Academic Affairs with managing faculty review processes.
According to Dr. Phillips, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, “Dr. Gurney’s experience as a faculty member and department chair position him well to assist Academic Affairs in developing a comprehensive support model for the life cycle of faculty. His knowledge about faculty personnel processes and passion for faculty and student development will contribute significantly to our efforts.”
