Accessing the 5th Week Course Progress Report

There are two ways to access the 5th Week Course Progress Report in Navigate. 

Option One: Access via email

Faculty will receive an email from Navigate containing a direct link to the 5th Week Course Progress Report(s).

Option Two: Access via the Navigate platform

Log in to the Navigate Faculty/Staff portal, ensure your role is set to Professor in the top-left dropdown menu next to your name.

When an active 5th Week Course Progress report is available, a button at the top of the screen for each Course where student feedback is requested. 

Providing Student Feedback

After selecting a course, you will see the Student Feedback page. If faculty are teaching more than one section in a course, each section will be listed separately.

Review the students listed and provide feedback based on their current course progress. 

You will be prompted:

Does this student need additional support? 

• No (or unmarked) – Select No or leave your feedback unmarked if you do not have a concern requiring additional support.
• Yes – Select Yes if you have a current concern about the student's progress and believe they may benefit from additional support.

Select Reasons 

Please select the reason(s) that best describe your feedback for this student. Select all that apply.

Available options can include:

• Kudos - Keep Up the Good Work
• Alert - Attendance Concern
• Alert - Missing or Late Assignments
• Alert - Low Exam or Quiz Score(s)
• Alert - Other Academic Concern

Important: if you select "Yes" for "Does this student need additional support?", you must select one or more alert reason to proceed.

Faculty Comments: Comments will be shared with students and available to support staff. Students can view faculty comments in the Navigate student app. Students will receive a notification when you select Yes for a support alert or select Kudos – Keep Up the Good Work. Please include helpful context so students understand the feedback and support staff can provide appropriate follow-up.

Submitting the Report

Navigate does not automatically save your work as you complete the report. If you need to leave the report before reviewing all students, submit the students you have completed. You can return to the report later to review the remaining students.

Submit & Continue Later
Use this option if you have reviewed some students but are not finished. Your completed evaluations will be submitted, and you can return later to review the remaining students.

Submit & Finish
Use this option when you have finished reviewing the entire roster. Any students you have not provided feedback for will be submitted as reviewed with no additional support needed.

Important: Only select Submit & Finish after you have finished reviewing all students.

• 1000, 2000, and select 3000/4000 level courses (LEC, STU, PRL, LAB w/ credit hours) will receive a 5th Week Course Progress Report. 

The 5th Week Course Progress Report can be used to provide an update on a student’s current progress in the course. Faculty can use the information available to them to recognize positive progress with a Kudos – Keep Up the Good Work or identify concerns such as Attendance Concern, Missing or Late Assignments, or Low Exam or Quiz Score(s).

If a student is progressing satisfactorily and no feedback is needed or warranted at this time, no selection is necessary before submitting the feedback.

Faculty comments submitted with a Progress Report will be shared with the student and staff members involved in follow-up. As with any feedback, additional context, when appropriate, can help both students and staff understand the situation and work toward the desired outcome.

Alerts can be submitted at any time when you want to recognize a student, identify a concern, or recommend support outside of a scheduled 5th Week Course Progress Report.

From your Professor Homepage, you can submit an Alert from your course roster by selecting a student and choosing Issue Alert. You can also search for a student and submit an Alert directly from their student profile.

When submitting an Alert, select the Alert reason and, when appropriate, associate the Alert with the course related to the concern or recognition. You may also add comments when additional context would be helpful.

Comments are directed to staff by default. If you would like your comments to be included in the communication sent to the student, select the option to send the comment to the student.

Once submitted, the Alert activates the appropriate Navigate workflow for follow-up and student support, as applicable.

Use to recognize a student for positive performance, engagement, improvement, effort, or another accomplishment.

Use when you have concerns about a student's attendance.

Alert - Attendance Concern - Template (link)

Use when a student has outstanding or repeatedly late assignments that may affect their ability to be successful in the course.

Alert - Missing or Late Assignments - Template (link)

Use when a student's performance on an exam or quiz indicates that additional academic support may be helpful.

Alert - Low Exam or Quiz Score(s) - Template (link)

Use when a student's current overall performance indicates that they are in danger of failing the course, but there is still an opportunity for the student to improve their performance and successfully complete the course.

Alert - In Danger of Failing Concern - Template (link)

Use when a student's current performance and any remaining opportunities in the course indicate that they are not able to successfully complete the course and are expected to receive an F if they remain enrolled. This Alert encourages the student to seek guidance and consider their options before deciding whether to drop or withdraw from the course.

As a professor, you can review the status and details of alerts you’ve issued from the My Issued Alerts section on Professor Home.

There you can see:

• Date the alert was issued
• Student name and alert reasons
• Whether a case was opened and its status/outcome
• Whether the alert is attached to a Progress Report

What it is: Scheduled or drop-in meetings used to provide student services, with documentation captured through Appointment Summary Reports.

What it is: A feature used to send targeted messages or appointment invitations to student groups based on defined criteria such as Alerts, appointments, enrollment data, or other filters.

Campaign Overview

Note: Automated campaigns may require supervisor approval before they are available for use.

Navigate access is provided to support employees whose work directly contributes to student success through advising, instruction, outreach, or coordinated support services.

Access requests are reviewed with consideration of role alignment and how Navigate will be used in day-to-day responsibilities. This includes whether the tools available in Navigate (such as alerts, messaging, appointments, or reports) are needed to support students effectively, how the system will be used in practice, and confirmation from a supervisor that access is appropriate for the role.

This approach helps ensure Navigate is used intentionally as a student success tool that supports communication, coordination, and care across campus.
