Special Collections and University Archives
Note about our Collections Move:
Special Collections and Archives are preparing to relocate their collections to the downtown building. During this transition, materials will remain accessible in the Kilgore Reading Room during regular operating hours. As preparations move forward, our hours will change periodically and will be updated on the library website. Research hours and service availability may also shift throughout the move. We understand this may cause some inconvenience, and we sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete this important project. For the most up-to-date information, please visit our website or contact us in advance when planning your visit.
This relocation is fueled by the need for additional space, improved preservation conditions, and expanded community access to historical records. The downtown location offers stronger protection against tropical weather, benefiting from the area’s seawall and established storm-surge safeguards. In addition, the building itself has withstood several major storms, demonstrating its resilience. Housing the archives on the second floor will provide an added layer of protection from potential ground flooding and roof damage, further safeguarding the collections. Special Collections and Archives will continue to maintain a presence on campus through the Kilgore Reading Room in the Mary and Jeff Bell Library. We remain dedicated to supporting the university’s students and staff in their research, teaching, and educational endeavors.
