Summary: The Coastal Bend Midstream Program (CBMP) is an educational and research program housed in the College of Engineering and Computer Science at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC). The CBMP will deliver a strong value proposition to the hydrocarbon transportation, processing, LNG, and storage industry (“Midstream Industry”) through:
- Industry-driven applied research.
- Enhancing TAMU-CC faculty and student knowledge and understanding of Midstream Industry engineering, operations, and career opportunities.
- Knowledge transfer.
- Midstream Industry-focused annual issue surveys, webinars, essay contests, scholarships, internships, co-ops, faculty externships, workshops, plant trips, and campus events.
- Incorporating Midstream Industry content into the TAMU-CC curriculum.
- Hosting regular CBMP research reviews with industry partners.
- Collaboration with industry organizations, PHMSA, and DOE.
Applied Research: CBMP research is opportunistic but focused on:
- AI/Machine Learning - e.g., operations efficiency, predictive maintenance, and material science.
- Materials Science and Surface Chemistry - e.g., hard spots and H2 impact on safety equipment.
- GIS - e.g., pipeline system geohazard database.
- Industrial Engineering - e.g., robotics and operations efficiency.
- Civil Engineering – e.g., smart cement.
Benefits: TAMU-CC and industry benefits of the CBMP program include:
- Practical research driven by industry needs focused on solving real-world problems.
- Education of TAMUCC students about Midstream Industry engineering and operations, and career opportunities.
- Enhanced TAMUCC faculty knowledge and understanding of the Midstream Industry.
- Webinars, workshops, and industry and campus events are designed to educate and bring industry, faculty, and students together.
- Information clearinghouse focused on developing and providing midstream industry-relevant information.
