USSE 1201 | University Seminar
University Seminar (USSE 1201) is a 2-credit, first-year experience course designed to help new Islanders successfully transition to college while developing the academic, personal, and professional skills needed for long-term success. Through engaging discussions, collaborative activities, and experiential learning, students explore topics that support both their educational journey and future career goals.
The curriculum emphasizes academic success strategies, career exploration, financial literacy, wellness, information literacy, and meaningful engagement with the university community. Students also participate in signature experiences such as the First-Year Symposium, complete a research skills microcredential, and engage in reflective activities that connect their personal values, academic interests, and career aspirations.
