A First-Year Peer Mentor is an experienced TAMU-CC student who supports first-year students by providing guidance, encouragement, and connections to campus resources throughout the semester.

Your Peer Mentor can answer questions about college life, share study and time management tips, help you get involved on campus, connect you with university resources, and encourage you throughout your first year.
Will I have a Peer Mentor in my University Seminar class?
Yes! Peer Mentors are embedded in some University Seminar sections and work alongside your instructor to support your transition to college.
How often will I see my Peer Mentor?
You'll see your Peer Mentor regularly in your University Seminar class and may also have opportunities to connect with them during campus events, workshops, and other First-Year Student Success activities.
Can I meet with my Peer Mentor outside of class?
Absolutely! Your Peer Mentor is happy to answer questions, connect you with resources, and provide guidance outside of class as needed.
Are Peer Mentors tutors?
No. Peer Mentors do not provide tutoring for course content. However, they can help you develop study strategies and connect you with tutoring and other academic support services.
Can my Peer Mentor register me for classes?
No. Peer Mentors cannot register you for classes or make changes to your schedule. They can help you prepare for registration and direct you to your academic advisor if needed.
Will my Peer Mentor keep our conversations confidential?
Peer Mentors respect your privacy. However, if you share information that involves your safety or the safety of others, they may be required to notify a university staff member so you can receive the appropriate support.
What if I don't know who my Peer Mentor is?
If you're unsure who your Peer Mentor is, contact the First-Year Student Success office or ask your University Seminar instructor.
Do I have to attend Peer Mentor events?
Some activities may be part of your University Seminar course, while others are optional. We encourage you to attend as many events as possible—they're a great way to meet other students and get connected on campus.

Applications typically open each spring for the following academic year. Peer Mentors should demonstrate leadership, strong communication skills, and a passion for helping new students succeed.
