Rules and Regulations
Décor & Activity Guidelines:
- Prohibited items include open flames, glitter, helium balloons, and smoke machines.
- All decorations must be approved by the UC Staff at least five (5) business days before the event. The client may be subjected to fees, or immediate termination of your activities or event should there be damage to the event spaces from unapproved decorations.
- Non-Permitted Items are as follows but not limited to:
- Taping or adhering anything to walls, floors, windows, doors, or other building surfaces.
- Open flames (candles, etc.). Electric candles with no wax or wick are allowed.
- Glitter or confetti of any kind.
- Helium balloons
- Heavy Dyed Beverages such as red or blue punch
- Smoke, haze, or similar type machines
- Any type of red drink.
- Paint of Any Kind (Water, Oil base, etc.)
- Fog machines, including dry ice, are not permitted in UC facilities without written permission from the appropriate UC Associate Director.
Entities using space are responsible for damage to facilities or equipment, as well as cleanup, and may be charged accordingly.
Food and Alcohol Policies:
- Food service must adhere to Islander Dining catering guidelines found here: catering-guidelines.pdf (tamucc.edu)
- For University (Student and Departmental Clients) events, any event with 400 guests or more present are required to utilize Islander Catering.

BEVERAGE EXCLUSIVITY: The University has an exclusive contract with Coca-Cola. All beverages served or donated must be a Coca-Cola brand, including bottled water.
Movies & Documentaries:
Public performance permits (Movie Rights) are required for screenings of movies and documentaries outside the home.
- Copyright licenses can be obtained from Swank Motion Pictures, Criterion Pictures, or directly from copyright owners. Movie and TV Show Licensing from Swank Motion Pictures

University Center Facility Policies & Guidelines
Alcohol:
- Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in or around the building except as part of an officially approved event in adherence to University policies.
Bicycles, Roller Blades, and Skateboards:
- Bicycles are not allowed in the building; roller blades and skateboards may be carried but not used. Bicycles should be secured at outside bike racks, not attached to columns, light poles, or railings. Running is not permitted in the UC.
Equipment:
- Tables, chairs, staging, A/V equipment, etc. may not be removed from the UC without approval by a member of the administrative staff. A signed equipment loan agreement form must be completed with UC Scheduling before equipment may be picked up.
Outdoor Sound Amplification:
- Amplified sound is monitored and restricted to reduce interference and/or disruption to classes and other academic activities. The use of any type of amplified sound system by student organizations, university departments, or other event/activity sponsors must be approved in advance through UC Scheduling.
Shirts and Shoes:
- Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times in the building for hygiene and safety reasons.
Smoking/Vaping:
- Smoking and/or vaping is prohibited in the UC. Smoking is only allowed in designated areas around campus. Vaping is not permitted anywhere on campus property. Please see Tobacco Use, Smoking, and E-Cigarettes/Vaping 34.05.99.C1 here: 05.99.c1-tobacco-smoking-vaping (tamucc.edu)
Telephone/Computer/Printer/Office Supply Use:
- Telephones and other office equipment at the Information Desk and in offices are for UC business use only. Printers/copiers are available at Campus Copies in the UC East Entrance for a small fee. Scissors, tape, paper, markers, etc. are not loaned out; supplies are available from the Campus Store. In an emergency, the telephone at the Information Desk may be used.
Unaccompanied Children & Teenagers:
- An adult must accompany children/teenagers who are not 18 years old and/or are not students while in the building. During camps, conferences and other special events, children/teenagers may use the facilities of the University Center if accompanied by adult chaperones. Children left unattended in the lounges, game room, rotunda, etc.—even while parents attend events--will be escorted to parents/chaperones or out of the building.
