Social Media Internships

Looking for a fun and unique opportunity to gain professional social media experience? Apply to become an E-Communications Student Intern with Marketing and Communications!

Student interns should be able to work through the summer months and available during regular business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) and limited hours on nights or weekends with advance notice.

Work study students are given a hiring priority, though this position is open to both work study and non-work study students. Course credit is available for this internship as approved by the student’s intern coordinator. We encourage students to plan to work in our office for at least one full year.

Duties

  • Create/schedule content for the university's lead social media accounts
  • Brainstorm, coordinate, and/or execute ideas for social media campaigns
  • Provide live social media coverage at special university events and programs
  • Curate a media library (photos, videos, info, etc.) for use on social media
  • Build and maintain a social media calendar
  • Maintain a campus-wide social media database
  • Research hashtags for tagging content; tag content (videos, posts, etc.) to maximize reach and sharing
  • Respond to inquiries; build and foster relationships with followers
  • Work with other departments to ensure their social media accounts are in compliance with all applicable policies, and that content is being shared regularly
  • Note popular trends on social media and think of creative ways the university can incorporate them into its practices
  • Compile analytical data, create regular data reports and note trends and findings
  • Assist in the creation and dissemination of other related e-communications

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

  • Prior experience using social media such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, etc.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Acute attention to detail
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, creative, efficient
  • Professional, level thinker, practice good judgment
  • Ability to think and work under tight deadlines
  • Positive attitude about the university
  • Understanding of social media content and how its presentation can gain the most likes, shares, retweets, follows, etc.
  • Experience in social media, journalism, photography, videography, graphic design, and/or web design is a plus

Hours

  • 10-15 hours a week: mostly Monday-Friday between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.; occasional nights and weekends.
  • Pay rate: $8 an hour
