Aug 12-23: Lone Star UAS, NASA, Continue Unmanned Traffic Management Testing in Downtown Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Lone Star UAS Center of Excellence & Innovation will conduct a test demonstration of its NASA Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) project, commencing Monday, Aug. 12, 2019 with an expected completion date of Friday, Aug. 23. This project is the culmination of nearly five years of research by NASA and Lone Star UAS for the purposes of safely integrating Unmanned Aircraft Systems into the National Airspace System.

As part of this capstone event, Lone Star UAS, in conjunction with the City of Corpus Christi, the Corpus Christi Police Department, the Corpus Christi Fire Department, the Port of Corpus Christi, and the Corpus Christi International Airport, will be flying aircraft in and around the downtown Corpus Christi area. This test will temporarily impact some pedestrian and vehicular traffic.

Tests will be conducted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the following days and locations:

Monday, Aug. 12: The Urban Canyon and the SEA District 

Occasional diversions in the area of S. Tancahua & Kinney St., to the North East, near N. Upper Broadway and Lipan St. Additionally, traffic will be occasionally restricted in the SEA district from the areas of N. Shoreline Blvd & Palo Alto St., to the North West, near N. Chaparral St. & Hirsh St.

Tuesday, Aug. 13: T-Head Marina

Temporary interruptions of traffic near N. Shoreline Blvd & William St., to N. Shoreline Blvd & Peoples St. as well as some temporary interruptions along Lawrence St. at the T-Head.

Wednesday, Aug. 14: Cole Park 

Cole Park will be temporarily closed.

Thursday, Aug. 15: T-Head Marina

Temporary interruptions of traffic near N. Shoreline Blvd & William St., to N. Shoreline Blvd & Peoples St. as well as some temporary interruptions along Lawrence St. at the T-Head. Water Garden Park will also be temporarily closed.

Friday, Aug. 16: The Urban Canyon and the SEA District 

Occasional diversions in the area of S. Tancahua & Kinney St., to the North East, near N. Upper Broadway and Lipan St. Additionally, traffic will be occasionally restricted in the SEA district from the areas of N. Shoreline Blvd & Palo Alto St., to the North West, near N.
