Registering a Device on the Network

Please be aware that many types of equipment rely on the network system to operate and must be supported by a wired network (through an Ethernet cable) and not through a wireless connection. However, not all machines and devices can be supported by our network. Because of this, it is important that you check with the Information Technology Service Desk before making purchases.

New office equipment needs to be registered to the network location where it will be in use. This equipment includes your computer, office phone, fax machine, printer and other network supported devices. Many departments and buildings have an individual information technology support contact who can assist you. Please call the Service Desk to learn who to contact and how to proceed.

During this process you will be asked to provide specific information about your computer. Please read the list of details that are required. We recommend you gather the following before contacting the Service Desk in order to expedite the process. Moves should be scheduled at least two weeks in advance to allow time for coordination of multiple IT service areas.

  • Primary user: If calling in for a lab, the lab manager can be listed as the primary user.

  • Property tag number: This will be located on the top of the tower or bottom of the laptop
  • Location: Include the building and office number.
  • Description of the device: Make and model
