Dependent Tuition Assistance Program (DTAP)

To be eligible for the DTAP, the student must be classified as a Texas resident. Students who are classified as non‑residents of Texas are not eligible for this program, regardless of their parent or guardian’s employment status with the University.

To qualify for this benefit, the employee must be a full-time employee prior to the start of the semester.

The earliest a student may apply for the DTAP is after they have officially registered for the semester.

No. PSA students are not eligible to receive the DTAP.

No. The DTAP is available only to students who have not yet earned their first bachelor’s degree. Students pursuing a second bachelor’s degree are not eligible to apply for or receive this benefit.

To be eligible to apply for the DTAP, a student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher. Students whose GPA falls below this requirement are not eligible to receive the benefits.

Only one dependent per employee is eligible to receive the DTAP each semester. If multiple dependents apply for the same term, only one will be approved per eligible employee. The selection of which dependent will receive the benefits is determined by the employee. 

Depending on the amount and type of other financial aid a student receives, the DTAP may cover Designated Tuition and Differential Tuition. Because this benefit is a last‑dollar program, it is applied only after all other eligible financial aid has been posted and only if there is a remaining balance for these tuition charges.

No. Students must be officially registered for the semester before applying for the DTAP.

If a student is awarded additional financial aid after the DTAP has been processed, the covered amount will be reviewed, recalculated, and adjusted as necessary based on the type and amount of financial aid received.

If your University employment ends after the semester has begun, the DTAP will remain in effect for that current semester. However, because eligibility requires the employee to be a full-time University employee, the student will not be eligible to apply for the DTAP in any future semesters once the employee is no longer employed by the University.

No. The Dependent Tuition Waiver cannot be applied to graduate programs. Eligibility is limited to undergraduate students who are pursuing their first bachelor’s degree. Students enrolled in graduate, professional, or post‑baccalaureate programs are not eligible for this benefit.

No. If a student’s financial aid fully covers all tuition and fees, the DTAP will not be applied, and no refund will be issued. The DTAP is considered a last‑dollar benefit and is applied only after all other financial aid has been posted. It will be used only if there is a remaining balance after financial aid is applied.

If there are changes to course registration after DTAP has been approved, you should contact Accounts Receivable as soon as possible. The student account will be reviewed to determine whether an adjustment to the approved amount is necessary based on the updated enrollment.

If a student withdraws from the class or semester after receiving the DTAP, the coverage will not automatically be removed. However, depending on the timing of the withdrawal, the amount may be adjusted to reflect any tuition credit issued due to the withdrawal and any financial aid applied to the student’s account. Adjustments are made to ensure the student account accurately reflects eligibility and applicable charges after withdrawal.
