Faculty Task Force Reports

Course Evaluation Committee Report

Overview

The committee reviewed current evaluations, communication, and processes and offered recommendations to increase meaningful feedback. The first step to increasing engagement is educating our students on the purpose of the course evaluation survey. In addition, since the major goal of this instrument should aim at getting constructive feedback from students regarding how a class can be improved rather than purely evaluating an instructor, the committee thus recommended rebranding the “Course Evaluation” to “Student Feedback on Instruction (SFI)”.

Learning Communities Task Force Report

Overview

This report is intended to be a resource and guide for the future development of first-year seminar, learning communities, and living learning communities at TAMU-CC. The task force researched these interventions, paying attention to affinity groups, and major- and theme- based options, considering different durations and credit hour options, with our current TAMU- CC students in mind. The committee has discussed several models of learning communities and first-year seminars. The results of these discussions are summarized in this document.

Fixed-Term Faculty and Promotion and Tenure Faculty Task Force Reports

Overview

In the fall of 2019, the Provost created faculty task forces to address two key areas of importance: fixed-term faculty and promotion and tenure.  The task forces worked throughout the fall and into the spring to deliver findings and recommendations to the Provost.  The Provost is now reviewing feedback from the faculty body before developing new processes and revising university rules and procedures to better support the faculty.  The task force reports and related university rules and procedures are available below for your information.  Thank you!

Fixed-Term Faculty Task Force

Charge of the Task Force

Fixed-term faculty contribute to campus life and institutional success in a wide variety of ways, such as teaching, research, advising students, providing administrative leadership, university service, and more. Therefore, TAMU-CC strives to create and maintain an environment that values fixed-term faculty members’ work and contributions to TAMU-CC’s teaching and scholarly communities. TAMU-CC strives to be an institution where fixed-term faculty are supported in reaching their professional and career goals.

Promotion and Tenure Faculty Task Force

Charge of the Task Force

The quality and productivity of our faculty are essential to our commitment to student success and our standing as a Tier 2 Research University. Over the last decade we have made substantial progress, increasingly hiring faculty able to produce research and creative activity of the highest impact. Yet, the promotion and tenure standards are significantly uneven across the university and with other R2 universities. Now is the ideal moment to contemplate these disconnects and engage further about how we set expectations that will continue to advance the university.
