Dr. Miguel Cid Montoya - IAWE Junior Award Recognition
Dr. Miguel Cid Montoya is an Assistant Professor of Engineering at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Before Montoya obtained his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of La Coruña, Spain, he conducted research in wind stability of long-span bridges at The University of Western Ontario, Canada. Throughout his two years at TAMU-CC, he has continued his research in aero-structural design for long-span bridges.
As a result of Montoya’s research, his former supervisor from The University of La Coruña — Professor Santiago Hernández — nominated Montoya for the 2023 International Association for Wind Engineering (IAWE) Junior Award of Recognition. The nomination was a three-page paper that described the highlights of Montoya’s career, and the award was specific to wind engineering researchers under the age of 40. Montoya received the 2023 IAWE Junior Award at the 16th International Conference on Wind Engineering in Florence, Italy, on Aug. 24, 2023. The ceremony took place during the gala dinner held at Villa Viviani, an Italian villa built in 1200, and about 600 international researchers and professors attended.
“I started working on this research about 10 years ago when I was working on my Ph.D. studies,” said Montoya. “And after 10 years of working, this award was a recognition that all those hours that I spent in front of a computer were not for nothing, so it's a great honor to have received this award.”
