18th Annual Texas A&M University System Pathways Student Research Symposium

The 18th Annual Texas A&M University System Pathways Student Research Symposium took place in Galveston, Texas, on March 2-3, 2023. Several Islanders participated and presented their research with other members of TAMUS. Three Islanders received the top three doctoral-level awards in Engineering and Computer Science: Jacob Hopkins,1st place; Ahmed Mohamed Saad Emam, 2nd place; and Syed Izzat Ullah, 3rd place.

Ullah ‘26, a first-year Ph.D. student in computer science, used robotics and artificial intelligence to create a safe, collision-free route for several drones to fly at once.

“Drones have become prominent in our daily lives — used in delivering packages, groceries, and providing emergency relief— therefore there is a need for collision prevention,” Ullah said.

Ullah valued his experience at the Symposium.

“I would advise students to keep participating in such events as it is going to shape many aspects of their professional life,” Ullah said. “It will improve their presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills, and at the same time, they will have fun.”
