ASCENT (Adjusted Scheduling and Curriculum in Education for Non-Traditional Students) is designed to help public school paraprofessionals complete the field-based hours they need to begin clinical teaching.

Students in ASCENT complete their field-based sequence during the summer. This sequence is condensed and more intensive than the 15-week field-based program offered during the regular academic year.

Students completing ASCENT register for the following summer classes (depending on certification):
  • Classroom Management (EDUC 4311)
  • Plan, Teach, Assess, and Tech (EDUC 4605)
  • READ 4394 (EC-6 Reading only)
  • IDET 3100 (EC-6 Reading, EC-6 Bilingual)

To apply, you must first:

  • Complete EDUC 3311 or EDUC 2211 with a grade of C or better
  • Be admitted into the Teacher Education Program
  • Have a minimum of 2.75 overall GPA (or required GPA if your department has a different requirement)
