ASCENT Program

The ASCENT (Adjusted Scheduling and Curriculum in Education for Non-Traditional Students) Program is designed to help public school paraprofessionals complete the field-based hours they need to begin clinical teaching.
Students in the ASCENT Program complete their field-based sequence during the summer. This sequence is condensed and more intensive than the 15-week field-based program offered during the regular academic year.
Students completing the ASCENT Program register for the following classes (depending on certification):
Summer 1
- Classroom Management (EDUC 4311)
Summer 2
- Plan, Teach, Assess, and Tech (EDUC 4605)
- READ 4394 (EC-6 Reading only)
- IDET 3100 (EC-6 Reading, EC-6 Bilingual, and SPED only)
To apply, you must first:
- Complete EDUC 3311 with a grade of C or better
- Be admitted into the Teacher Education Program
- Have a minimum of 2.75 GPA in your field of study (or required GPA if your department/major has a different requirement)
