Managing the Global Navigation

The global navigation (the sets of navigation links in the header and footer) are managed in the TAMU-CC Shared site.

The files that hold the links and publish changes to them to the public-facing website are located in the shared folder within this site.

Files in the shared folder

There are four files used to manage the content of the global header and footer navigation.

1. Global Header Block
This block holds the groups of navigation links in the global header.

2. published-header page
This page is used to publish updates to the navigation links in the Global Header Block to the public-facing website.

3. Global Footer Block
This block holds the groups of navigation links in the global header.

4. published-footer page
This page is used to publish updates to the navigation links in the Global Footer Block to the public-facing website.

This block holds the content of the global header navigation links. The navigation links are broken out into several groups.

Primary Navigation*

Links in the main navigation bar
Each link is in a Navigation Group
Primary link
- Link that is visible
Child Link
- Displays when Primary Link is moused over
- Minimum of 2 links
Top-to-bottom order = Left-to-right on page
Content Entry Fields
- Text
- Link Type
  - Internal Page
  - Internal File
  - External URL
  - External Link
- Link selection/input fields
  - Fields present depend upon Link Type

Secondary Navigation*

Smaller links displayed above the main navigation bar
Top-to-bottom order = Left-to-right on page

MyTAMU-CC Navigation

* For the Primary Navigation (the Primary links) and the Secondary Navigation, there is a limited amount of space for the links. If too many links are added, the header will not render correctly as the links will wrap to multiple lines, disrupting the visual layout and design. These sets of links are designed to be on a single line. Given this, you'll need to take into account the amount of text in each, as well as the number of links, when editing these link groups.

Publishing Updates to the Global Header Block

To publish updates, the published-header page is published.
After publishing, all published pages are updated with the changes made to the block.

This block holds the content of the global footer navigation links. The navigation links are broken out into several groups. This block also holds the content of the copyright statement in the footer.

Need to account for this content when editing Bottom Links. Too many links may cause presentation and display problems.
Special characters need to be entered using their character entities
