Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi uses a third-party emergency notification system that has the ability to contact students and employees by work phone, cell phone, text message and/or email. The severity of the emergency will determine how many forms of contact are used.

Emergency texts will come from 23177
Non-emergency texts will come from 53291
Email alerts will come from codeblue@tamucc.edu

Phone and text messages will be sent to the number outlined in SAIL (students), Code Blue (faculty/staff) or Code Blue Public Portal (parents/community). The University may send “test” messages at its discretion reminding users that they are in the system. In addition, users will receive a message when their number is added to the system.

The Code Blue Emergency Notification System also has the ability reach classroom telephones. For more information, call the Division of Information Technology at 361.825.2692.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi currently utilizes three different SMS (text) numbers for different notification types and each must be opted out individually.

• Emergency SMS (text) comes from 23177. You can send a message of “STOP” to this number to opt out.
• Non-Emergency Outreach SMS (text) comes from 53291. You can send a message of “STOP” to this number to opt out.

If you have opted out of Code Blue, but want to get back in, send two different/separate messages to 23177 and 53291 with the words “SUBSCRIBE TAMUCC” in the body of the text. You will receive confirmation texts if the opt in is done correctly.

If you are experiencing issues with the messaging program you can reply with the keyword HELP for more assistance, or you can get help directly at 866-360-2155.

You can cancel the SMS service at any time. Just text “STOP” to the short code. After you send the SMS message “STOP” to us, we will send you an SMS message to confirm that you have been unsubscribed. After this, you will no longer receive SMS messages from us. If you want to join again, just sign up as you did the first time and we will start sending SMS messages to you again.

Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Code Blue testing is conducted on the last business day of each month. Test dates and times may change during the summer and on holidays. The test message contents will make it obvious the message is only a test. Testing the system and its various components provides valuable data on the performance of the system and associated procedures. These tests allow the university’s Incident Command Team to refine and improve various procedures.

If you did not receive the test message, you may need to update your information or opt into the system. It’s vitally important that you are set up to receive information and updates, especially text messages, during any emergency. Instructions for opting in or updating your contact information are available at codeblue.tamucc.edu.

If you believe your contact information is correct, and you did not receive the test message, contact the IT Service Desk at 361.825.2692 for assistance.

The University’s official (top tier) social media accounts, such as Facebook and Twitter, serve to reach the public. In the event of an emergency, notifications similar to the messaging received via the Code Blue Emergency Notification System will be posted to these social platforms.

• In the event of an emergency, the University’s website and social media accounts would be updated frequently. For example, a notification would be posted following a hurricane evaluation meeting by the University’s Incident Command Team or in the event of an ongoing power outage.

Special notices are sent to @islander.tamucc.edu and @tamucc.edu email addresses in the event of an emergency. These email blasts are sent at the discretion of the Incident Command Team.  Language crafted for these e-blasts are often used for postings to the University’s website and top-tier social media accounts.

Corpus Christi media outlets, including television, radio, print and digital, are excellent University partners in the dissemination of information about campus emergencies to the public. The Incident Command Team often sends emergency messaging to local media outlets so they can then broadcast these messages to their viewership and readership.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi maintains two information hotlines that may be activated to place information of interest to faculty, staff and students. These hotlines will contain pre-recorded messages that are updated regularly during an emergency.

If you are involved in an emergency, call the University Police Department at 361.825.4444 (ext. 4444), or dial 911. The University Police Department is available 7 days/week, 24 hours/day.

Classroom Emergencies: In the event of an emergency in the classroom, phones located on the walls of each classroom can be used to call the University Police Department (ext. 4444) or 911 Emergency.
