Military and Veterans Education Benefits
CERTIFICATION REQUEST PORTAL
Requests are processed in the order they are received. Must be submitted every semester/term you want to use Military and Veterans Education Benefits.

STEP 1: Complete VA Application for Benefits.
STEP 2: Once you receive the Certificate of Eligibility (COE) from the VA, please upload via 'Certification Request Portal'.
NOTE: Application submissions will only be accepted online. Any other submission types will be considered null and void. For more information, please contact vets@tamucc.edu.
Hazlewood Act Exemption
The Hazlewood Act Exemption is a State of Texas benefit that provides qualified Veterans, Spouses, and Dependent Children with up to 150 hours of tuition exemption, including most fee charges, at public institutions of higher education in Texas. This does NOT include living expenses, books, or supply fees.
Documents Needed:
- DD-214 (Member 4)
- Hazlewood Act Exemption Application provided here
- Register for your Texas Veterans Commission account here
- Proof of Texas Residency (Ex: Copy of Texas Driver's License/ID)
- Must be classified as a Texas Resident by the university
- Proof of no VA Education Benefit dedicated to the full payment of tuition and fees here (Not required for those with Military Service prior to September 10th, 2001)
- Can be used in conjunction with:
- CH.1606 Montgomery GI Bill-Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR)
- CH.30 Montgomery GI Bill-Active Duty (MGIB-AD)
- CH.35 Survivors' and Dependents' Education Assistance (DEA)
- Can be used in conjunction with:
Dependents/Spouse, all above documents as well as:
- Proof of Dependency (Ex: Birth Certificate, Marriage License, etc.)
- Veteran's VA Letter of Disability (if applicable)
