TLS Job Positions
Tutoring and Learning Services (TLS) has multiple Office Assistant Positions supporting our Tutoring, Writing Center, and Math Learning Center areas. Office Assistants typically work 8-19 hours per week depending on availability.
Minimum qualifications:
- Currently enrolled TAMU-CC undergraduate student.
- Freshman, Sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate classification.
- Minimum 2.5 overall TAMU-CC GPA.
- Must be in good disciplinary standing at the university.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Positive recommendations from faculty and/or staff at TAMU-CC.
Job Description
- Greet visitors in professional manner.
- Provide visitors with information and direct them to their appointment accordingly.
- Answer questions about assigned center (Tutoring, Math, or Writing)
- Monitor and manage inventory of office supplies; report necessity of ordering and distribute office supplies as necessary.
- Perform other administrative support tasks as requested by Lead, Coordinator, and/or TLS Leadership.
Peer to Peer (P2P) Tutors provide personalized academic assistance and course-specific tutoring to help students develop the study skills and strategies necessary to be successful in their classes. The most common courses supported are introductory business, mathematics, and science courses as well as writing intensive core curriculum courses. P2P Tutors typically work 5-15 hours per week.
Minimum qualifications:
- Currently enrolled TAMU-CC undergraduate student.
- Sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate classification.
- Minimum 3.0 overall TAMU-CC GPA.
- Must be in good disciplinary standing at the university.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Recommendation from faculty at TAMU-CC.
- Grade of “A” or "B" in all courses tutored.
Tutoring and Programming Responsibilities (85%):
- Provide academic tutoring and writing assistance to undergraduate students.
- Facilitate the development of effective study skills and strategies.
- Conduct one-one-one, small group, and walk-in tutoring sessions.
- Participate in mandatory pre-semester training and regularly scheduled meetings and trainings throughout the long semesters.
- Facilitate academic skill development workshops.
- Promote and advertise tutoring services on-campus.
- Lead review sessions as requested by faculty.
- Assist students in setting short- and long-term academic goals.
- Refer students to other student support services on campus as needed.
- Maintain a professional attitude at all times.
Administrative and Miscellaneous Responsibilities (15%):
- Keeping accurate records of hours worked, tutoring appointment notes, and student progress notes.
- Reporting any issues that arise to your supervisor in a timely manner.
- Ensure that tutoring spaces in assigned centers are maintained in a clean and orderly fashion after each shift.
- Other duties as assigned.
The Tutor Leads' overall function is to assist in the oversight and implementation of tutoring services at their designated sites. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Tutoring and Learning Services, the Tutor Lead will serve as the main point of contact for tutors at their sites. In addition, the Tutor Lead will assist in the onboarding of new Tutors, serve as mentors for these tutors, hold regularly scheduled site meetings, submit learning period reports, and participate in the recruitment, hiring, and training processes for the Learning Services programs. Tutor Leads are to support the development of the tutoring program and implement best practices for program success. This position is designed for those who have at least one year of tutoring experience and have experience in working in one or more of the following subject areas: accounting, math, biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, physics, or writing-intensive core curriculum courses. Tutor Leads typically work between 15-19 hours/week.

- Strong content knowledge of business, humanities, mathematics, science, or social science courses.
Job Duties:
- Assist with the onboarding and orientation of new tutors.
- Mentor new and returning tutors in discipline specific knowledge and tutoring techniques.
- Assist with the observation and evaluation of tutors.
- Support tutors and the Assistant Director with maintenance of and communications via Microsoft Teams and the Tutoring and Learning Services social media sites.
- Assists in the recruitment and interviewing of tutors.
- Assists in the facilitation of mandatory trainings by participating with Training Leads. May involve developing original materials and creating activities and role-playing scenarios for each training topic.
- Conducts workshop and classroom presentations on topics such as study skills, time management, note-taking, learning styles etc. as well as marketing of tutoring services or specific content areas as needed.
- Develop marketing materials to promote and advertise tutoring services.
Additional Duties:
- Keep accurate records of hours worked.
- Report any issues that arise to the Assistant Director of Tutoring and Learning Services in a timely manner.
- Ensure that tutoring spaces in assigned centers are maintained in a clean and orderly fashion after each shift.
- Assist with TLS projects and the organizing events on an as-needed basis.
- Attend weekly meetings with the Tutoring and Learning Services program leadership and other TLS Leads.
- Other duties as assigned.
Writing Consultants provide collaborative, peer-driven tutoring for writing and communications assignments. Consultant do not have to be experts on writing, but they must have a writer’s skillset and a willingness to work towards writing goals with diverse clients. Consultants should be aware of their writing strengths and weaknesses; utilizing resources, such APA and MLA manuals, online grammar guides, and fellow consultants is necessary and encouraged.
Students from every major and classification utilize the WC. Common visitors are freshmen-level students, graduate students, as-well-as Nursing, Environmental Science, Psychology, and Engineering students.
Students from all majors and disciplines are welcome and encouraged to apply, not just writing majors.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Sophomore, Junior, Senior, or graduate classification or graduated writer in any field; most consultants are English majors, but any major may apply
- Minimum 3.0 overall TAMU-CC GPA
- Must be in good disciplinary standing at the university
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Two recommendations from TAMU-CC faculty (or others who can attest to your writing skills and your readiness for this position)
Tutoring and Programming Responsibilities (85%):
- Conduct one-on-one consulting sessions to undergraduate and graduate students
- Facilitate the development of effective revision strategies, citation skills, note-taking and other metacognitive skills related to the writing and reading process
- Guide students in setting and achieving long and short-term writing goals
- Assist with creating, improving, and facilitating writing workshops and handouts
- Advocate for consultation services on-campus
- Refer students to other services on campus if necessary (i.e., Health Center, University Counseling Center, Career Services, Izzy's Food Pantry)
- Maintain a professional attitude at all times

Under the supervision of the Assistant Director of Tutoring and Learning Services (TLS), the TLS Trainer’s overall function is to serve as the main point of contact for training and assist in the oversight and implementation of training of Tutors and Writing Center Consultants at their designated sites.
In addition, the TLS Trainers will assist in the onboarding of new Tutors/Consultants, serve as mentors, hold regularly scheduled site trainings, submit learning period reports. The TLS Trainers are to support the development of the tutoring program/Writing Center and implement best practices for program success. This position is designed for those who have at least one year of tutoring/SI/SLA experience and/or have experience in working in a management position. The trainers will be tasked with developing and implementing College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) Training Program that every TLS Tutor/Consultant must undertake. TLS Trainers typically work between 15-19 hours/week.
Minimum qualifications:
- Currently enrolled TAMU-CC undergraduate or graduate student.
- Junior, Senior, or Graduate Classification.
- Minimum 3.0 overall TAMU-CC GPA.
- Must be in good disciplinary standing at the university.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- At least one year of tutoring experience, preferably at TAMU-CC.
Job Duties:
- Assist in the development and presentation of subject-based training. May involve developing original materials and creating activities and role-playing scenarios for each training topic.
- Assist with implementation of TAMUCC’s CRLA training program, including coordination of CRLA training sessions and maintenance of records for students completing CRLA training and certification.
- Maintain CRLA membership and certification.
- Create Level I-III CRLA certification materials.
- Plan and run official CRLA certification ceremony twice annually.
- Conducts workshop and presentations on topics such as study skills, time management, note-taking, learning styles etc. as well as marketing of tutoring services or specific content areas as needed.
- Assist with the onboarding and orientation of new TLS tutors/consultants.
- Mentor new and returning Learning Consultants in discipline, specific knowledge, and tutoring techniques.
- Support TLS staff and the TLS Leadership with maintenance of and communications via Microsoft Teams and the Tutoring and Learning Services social media sites.

As part of the THECB-CRSM 2024 grant, Tutoring & Learning Services will be hiring Peer Assistants (PAs) to support the efforts in corequisite sections of MATH 1314 and MATH 1442 during the Spring 2025, Fall 2025, and Spring 2026 semesters. Ideally, at least two PAs will be assigned to support each section. PAs work at least 10 hours per week and can work up to 19 hours per week pending assignments.
Minimum qualifications:
- Currently enrolled TAMU-CC undergraduate student
- Minimum 3.0 TAMU-CC GPA
- Must be in good disciplinary standing at the university
- Have taken MATH 1314 (or higher) or MATH 1442 and earned an ‘A’ or ‘B’
- Demonstrated strong communication skills and leadership potential
- Recommendation from TAMU-CC faculty member
Job Duties:
- Attend corequisite courses with students to provide additional support for instructor during class activities.
- Hold office hours outside of class to assist with homework and content review.
- Lead review sessions as requested by faculty.
- Assist faculty member with tracking student performance and providing outreach to students who might be missing assignments or struggling with the content.
- Participate in mandatory pre-semester training and regularly scheduled meetings and trainings throughout the long semesters.
- Promote and advertise tutoring services on-campus.
- Refer students to other student support services on campus as needed.
- Maintain a professional attitude at all times.
