Starfish

Starfish is an undergraduate student case management system used for notifying students of their course progress and for connecting students to faculty and support services at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi.

To help support first to third year undergraduate student retention, undergraduate faculty may be asked to submit course progress feedback in the system through completion of 5th Week Course Progress Reports for select undergraduate courses during the long Fall and Spring semesters. In general, 1000, 2000, and select 3000 and 4000 level courses (LEC, STU, PRL, LAB w/ credit hours) will receive a 5th Week Course Progress Report.

If submitted, Course Progress Report alerts send automated notifications to students either congratulating them on their progress (Kudos) or initiating a call to action for students to improve their performance (Flags). Outreach from members of the students’ Success Network (Academic Advisor, Academic Coach, or Scholastic Coordinator) will also take place after an alert has been created in the system.

Please note, not all faculty will be asked to submit a 5th Week Course Progress Report for all undergraduate level courses taught during a given Fall or Spring term. If you are a faculty member who did not receive a 5th Week Course Progress Report for a course and would like to create Starfish alerts (Kudos, Flags, Referrals) for students, you may do so by raising alerts manually outside of the Course Progress Report.

Goals:

  • Increase contact between students and faculty

  • Increase contact between students and staff

  • Increase student utilization of campus co-curricular programming

  • Increase undergraduate student course completion rates and persistence/retention
