Facilities

Most of the Department studios and labs are housed in the Center for the Arts and Bay Hall. The DOA+D maintains up-to-date classrooms, including computer labs for graphic design and photography and well-equipped studios for ceramics, drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture.

The Center for the Arts also houses the Weil Gallery, featuring the work of local, regional, national, and internationally known artists as well as the student exhibitions and art faculty shows.

Ceramics

The ceramics department is well equipped with a variety of Brent Shimpo Skutt and Lockerbie wheels. There is also a Leach Treadle, and powerful variable speed electric reportedly welded by Peter Voulkos.

We have a semi-enclosed kiln yard with two Skutt electrics, A cone 10 electric Naberthem brand kiln, an Alpine downdraft, Olsen updraft and soda kiln. There is also raku and test kilns.

We mix our own clay and glazes with a Soldner mixer and Bluebird pugmill and have a variety of small equipment, and a well stocked chemical inventory.

The ceramics lab is adjacent to the sculpture studio and wood shop.

Graphic Design

Our creative and collaborative spaces will allow you to think outside the box and develop memorable visual solutions for different media. Our two design labs are equipped with iMac computers and loaded with Adobe Creative Cloud® software, including Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premier, After Effects, and more! iPads for digital illustration and production tools are at your fingertips. Did we mention our 60" Cannon Printer? Don't worry about spending money on small or large prints; we've got you covered!

Painting

The TAMUCC Painting Studios provide large open spaces with natural lighting as well as areas designated for controlled lighting to accommodate specific needs within painting.   Large wall space is available for oversized works and the studios contain plenty of storage, including vertical racks and flat files, for all size and media. Room ventilation is in constant use for strong odors and a designated ventilation area is available for spraying needs such as fixative and limited spray painting.

Photography

The Photography Facilities at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is equipped with a lighting studio, critique space, graduate studios, and three distinct labs: digital, analogue, and alternative processes. These labs allow students to explore techniques dating from photography’s inception through to the present.

The digital lab and classroom houses fourteen Mac computers with the latest Adobe software including Photoshop, Bridge and RAW processor, an Epson scanner, and two Epson P5000 archival pigment printers as well as a printer dedicated to the production of digital negatives for alternative processes.

The analogue lab and classroom is where all silver-gelatin based work is done. It has a lecture space, blackout film loading room, and a darkroom with 12 enlargers and two large sink areas for film development and print processing.

The alternative processes lab has two contact printing UV light boxes, work tables, a large sink area for processing and an adjacent drying room.

The photo area critique space has magnetic wall boards for print display, work tables, and a multimedia computer-to-tv set-up for slideshow presentations. 

The lighting studio is outfitted with a Profoto studio lighting set-up, boom, soft boxes, backgrounds, beauty dish, large format in-studio tripod, and other tools for a full range of professional studio lighting set-ups.

Graduate students in photography have 24-hour access to the photography facilities including their own office/studio, the lighting studio, an individual analogue darkroom for special projects, and two additional printers: Epson Stylus Pro 7900 24” and an Epson Stylus Pro 9900 44” for large scale digital printing.
