Abstract Submission Guidelines

Submissions from across the health sciences and related fields are welcome. Presenters are encouraged to consider how their work connects to the symposium theme, including through implications for patients and communities, health communication, research transparency and rigor, ethical or responsible practice, community engagement, health equity, translation of research into practice, or other factors that shape public understanding and trust in health science. 

Not every project must focus directly on public trust. Presenters are encouraged to consider how their work contributes to the larger relationship between health science and the people and communities it serves.

In keeping with this year’s theme, Building Public Trust in Health Science, the symposium especially welcomes submissions that address one or more of the following areas: 

• Health Communication and Public Understanding: How health information is communicated, understood, interpreted, and shared, including health literacy, misinformation, risk communication, and patient or public understanding of scientific evidence. 

• Community Engagement, Health Equity, and Partnership: How researchers, healthcare professionals, and communities work together to address health needs, disparities, access to care, community priorities, and the translation of research into meaningful community benefit. 

• Scientific Discovery, Responsible Practice, and Translation: How rigorous scientific discovery, emerging technologies, clinical innovation, and translational research advance health while supporting accuracy, safety, transparency, and responsible practice. 

These areas are intended to encourage conversation around the symposium theme and are not intended to exclude strong health sciences and technology research addressing other topics.

RESEARCH ABSTRACTS
Your abstract should include:

• Introduction: State the research question or problem and explain its significance.
• Methods: Provide a concise description of the approach or methods used.
• Results: Highlight the most important findings including preliminary results.
• Conclusion: Present the primary take-home message, implications for practice or future research, and relevant strengths or limitations. Where appropriate, presenters may also note implications for patients, communities, public understanding, or trust in health science.

CASE STUDY ABSTRACTS
Your abstract should include:

• Introduction: Describe the problem or issue addressed by the case and explain its significance.
• Case Description/Discussion: Provide the information necessary to understand the case, approach, intervention, or experience and why it is being presented.
• Conclusion: Present the primary take-home message, lessons learned, and implications for practice or future work. Where appropriate, presenters may also note implications for patients, communities, public understanding, or trust in health science.
