Professional Counseling Hispanic Mental Health (HSON) Online Program

This program aims to increase the number of culturally competent counselors available to work among Hispanic communities. Through the specialized content added to courses throughout the curriculum, students participating in this program will:

• become more knowledgeable about the cultural, social, and historical roots of Hispanic psychology,

• develop the skills needed to conceptualize Hispanic mental health issues and clinical presentations from a culturally responsive approach,

• explore empirically validated interventions for mental disorders among Latine clients, and 

• acquire Spanish language skills about clinical work that will allow them to communicate with their clients more effectively.

With this degree, students will be prepared to work as professional counselors in hospitals, schools, clinics, private practices, and other community settings offering mental health services, especially those that serve a predominantly Hispanic population.

Upon completing the degree program, students will have met all relevant Texas Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) educational requirements. Out-of-state students can check with their faculty advisor to determine whether coursework completed as part of the degree plan fits the educational requirements for licensure in their home state.

• Official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate course work taken at any accredited college or University attended (Foreign College credits/transcripts require an official foreign evaluation. TAMU-CC transcript is not required.
• Three references submitted through the M.S Counseling Reference Rating Form

• 500-750-word essay addressing the following four prompts:
