Island University to Celebrate Spring 2026 Commencement Saturday, May 16

For more informationCORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – Caps and gowns will replace textbooks as Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi celebrates its spring commencement ceremonies. On Saturday, May 16, the Hilliard Center will fill with the cheers of families, the flash of cameras and the unmistakable energy of achievement as graduates cross the stage to receive their diplomas and step into what comes next.
Students from the Colleges of Business, Engineering and Computer Science, and Science will graduate at 10 a.m., followed by graduates from the Colleges of Education and Human Development, Liberal Arts, Nursing and Health Sciences, and the School of Arts, Media, & Communication at 2 p.m.
Dr. Nelly Garcia Blow, a Brownsville, Texas native and chief medical officer at Amistad Health, will deliver the commencement address. A geriatrics specialist, Garcia Blow earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at San Antonio and completed medical school at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth.
“Being asked to give this year’s commencement address is a tremendous honor,” Garcia Blow said. “I am both excited and humbled to share my personal experience with this year’s graduating class.”
Garcia Blow has dedicated her career to patient education and to improving the lives of Coastal Bend residents. She serves as president of the local chapter of the American Heart Association and on the boards of Catholic Charities and the Mother Theresa Shelter as well as the Dr. Hector P. Garcia Memorial Foundation.
Garcia Blow’s message to graduates will focus on the importance of hard work, a grateful spirit, and using true conviction as a guide through difficult chapters.
“Success in life requires a village to help and guide you along your journey,” Garcia Blow said. “I hope that my message will inspire them as much as their promise for a better future inspires me.”
The ceremonies are free and open to the public and do not require tickets for entry. Seating for guests is available on a first-come, first-served basis, and arena doors will open one hour prior to the ceremonies.
