First Generation Islanders
Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi proudly supports the experiences of first-generation students. A first-generation college student is defined as a student whose parents did not complete a 4-year college or university degree. TAMU-CC will be joining colleges and universities throughout the nation to participate in the National First-Generation College Celebration. Led by the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) and the NASPA Center for First-Generation Student Success, the day is intended to celebrate the success and presence of first-generation college students, faculty, and staff on campuses across the country. November 8 was identified as the date by COE for the annual National First-Generation College Celebration in order to honor the anniversary of the signing of the Higher Education Act of 1965.
Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi will host The First College Success Day Celebration on Tuesday Nov. 11th, for the National First-Generation College Celebration. The goal of these events is to promote community for past, present and future first-generation Islanders. Events include:

First College Success Celebration
11 a.m. to 1 p.m. – Glasscock room 107 & CASA West Open Area
The goal of this event is to bring together key campus resources that support our First-Generation student community as they navigate their college journey. Many first-gen students may not always know where to turn for guidance, and these departments/programs play an important role in helping them succeed! Join us for delicious food and pick up your First – Gen T-shirt. (Until supplies last)
