Summer Internships- More than Résumé Builders
After a summer full of learning and growing through internships, Texas A&M University- Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) students returned to campus with more than just sun-soaked memories—they brought real-world experience, sharpened skills, and new confidence in their chosen career paths. From working in the field to assisting seasoned professionals, this year’s summer internships proved to be more than just résumé builders.
Within the College of Engineering and Computer Science, more than 10 students stepped out of the classroom and into the field. Students from each department—including Engineering, Computer Science, and Geospatial Systems Engineering—participated in both local and out-of-sate internships.
Civil engineering student Adolofo Garcia ‘26 secured an internship on a project that made a significant impact on the local Corpus Christi community—the Harbor Bridge project. Garcia interned with FlatironDragados as a field engineer Intern, where he spent countless hours observing experienced field engineers, gaining hands-on experience with tools and working directly with construction crews.
Garcia made the most of this internship by taking advantage of every opportunity provided to him. He stood out among his fellow interns as one of the only students to show up on optional workdays, including the weekends, for additional experience.
“Always say yes to the opportunities presented to you. The more you say yes, the more that people will notice, and that can lead to great opportunities in the future," said Garcia, offering encouragement to other students pursuing internships.
Another TAMU-CC student, Emily Brennon ‘25, a master’s student in geospatial systems, traveled to Des Moines, Iowa, for her summer internship.
Brennon stepped into a role that challenged her abilities and pushed her to grow. She shared that the best thing an intern can do is approach the position as a learner and not be afraid to try new things.
“Don't be afraid to put yourself out there and gain experience. Always be willing to try new things, and there will always be room to grow,” said Brennon.
These summer internship experiences showcase the courage and dedication of TAMU-CC students as they prepare to become leaders in their industries. Whether working locally on major projects or traveling across the country for new challenges, TAMU-CC students exemplify what it means to turn classroom knowledge into real-world impact.
