2025 STEM Camp
Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi’s (TAMU-CC) College of Engineering and Computer Science served local children through hosting this year’s STEM Camp. This camp was offered to students from the Corpus Christi area aged 10-14 years old. The weeklong camp offered interactive, hands-on activities that integrated science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Each day, students learned about the different types of engineering and computer science programs that TAMU-CC offers. Topics covered during the camp included mechanical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, and computer science. Each program was introduced through hands-on activities such as assembling a motor car to learn about mechanical engineering, a bridge building competition for civil engineering, and making an LED circuit greeting card to learn about electrical engineering.
Not only were students able to learn about TAMU-CC programs through these fun and engaging activities, but they also were able to tour multiple research labs used by TAMU-CC students and faculty. Dr. Pablo Rangel welcomed campers to the Collaborative Robots and Agents Lab (CORAL), where he demonstrated how Islanders are making advances with unmanned aerial systems and modular robots.
“STEM Camps are an impactful way for us at TAMU-CC to get students interested in STEM fields from an early age,” said the Outreach Coordinator for TAMU-CC's College of Engineering and Computer Science, Kim Wolcott. “We hope that this camp might encourage these students to explore a career in engineering or computer science in the future – and that they may want to come back to TAMU-CC to study that!”
