Impact of iSEE

As the world continues to evolve, so does the College of Engineering and Computer Science (COECS) at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Beginning in the Fall of 2024, the COECS implemented a new five-year strategic plan focused on student success as well as creating a link between academia and industry.

A key part of this initiative is the creation of the Islander Office of Student Execellence Experience (iSEE), an office designed to provide support to students in their academic endeavors as well as connecting them with various campus resources to help them succeed.

Since its creation, iSEE has supported students through hosting workshops and events to help them both academically and professionally. The first series of events hosted by iSEE was the Islander Leadership Academy series on Emotional Intelligence, led by industry leader Rene Ramirez.  Ten students attended this lecture series, gaining valuable skills to prepare them for the workplace.

In spring 2025, iSEE also organized Islander RoboWeek, a celebration of innovation and robotics. Over 40 students attended various lunch and learn activities where they learned from graduate students, professors, and industry professionals about research and opportunities in the field of robotics.

iSEE has also supported students through initiating the creation of the Islander Engineering and Computer Science Council (IECSC), a council of student organization representatives that facilitates collaboration between clubs. With the help of iSEE and the Career and Professional Development Center, the council hosted the very first Employer Showcase, which brought more than 50 representatives from 20 different organizations to campus to network and learn how to get involved with TAMU-CC engineering programs.

In Fall 2025, iSEE has plans to even further support students by welcoming a Student Services and Success Coordinator (SSSC). This new staff member will serve as a dedicated mentor for COECS students, especially those that are facing academic or personal challenges. The SSSC will connect with students one-on-one to provide them with a listening ear, accountability, and referrals to university resources that will help them during their time at TAMU-CC.

In addition, iSEE will be offering another Islander Leadership Academy series, Student Success Workshops, and implementing a peer-to-peer mentorship program to help incoming freshman adjust to college life.

“Our goal is to help all students succeed. We want students to know that if they are ever in need of assistance or guidance, our office is here to listen and connect them to the resources that can help them reach their goals,” said Mayra Alvarado Ramirez, Director of iSEE.
