Microalgal Culture Library & Isolation Researcher
Location: Corpus Christi, TX
Semester: Spring 2027
This student will contribute to the continued development of the JAAG microalgal culture library by maintaining existing isolates and isolating new microalgae from local coastal samples. The project will involve culture maintenance, microscopy, isolation and purification techniques, documentation, and accessioning stable unialgal cultures into the laboratory collection.

Galdieria Biochemistry Researcher
Location: Corpus Christi, TX
Semester: Spring 2027
This student will investigate the biochemical characteristics of the extremophilic red microalga Galdieria sulphuraria, building on ongoing work in cultivation and C-phycocyanin production. The specific Spring research question will be developed based on current results but may involve pigment chemistry, extraction and analytical methods, glutathione, amino acids, or other bioactive compounds. Preference will be given to students with an academic background or demonstrated interest in chemistry and biochemistry.
