Dr. Brian Shelton is Director of Instrumental Ensembles at Texas A & M University-Corpus Christi, where he conducts the Symphonic Winds and Concert Orchestra, as well as teaches courses in conducting. Dr. Shelton’s teaching experience includes all levels of public school, from beginning band through collegiate wind ensemble. From 1998-2000, he served as band director and music teacher in Malta, Illinois, and from 2000-2002 he was director of bands at Oak Lawn Community High School in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Prior to his appointment at TAMU-CC, he was Director of Bands and Supervisor of Student Teachers at Texas A&M University-Kingsville from 2006-2013. Ensembles under Dr. Shelton’s direction have performed to high acclaim, including performances at the Texas Music Educators Association Conference. In addition to his collegiate work, Dr. Shelton has served as clinician for bands in TMEA regions throughout Texas, and he has presented clinics on wind band and marching band at conferences in across the country, including the prestigious Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic. Dr. Shelton conducts two community ensembles in the Coastal Bend: the Corpus Christi Wind Symphony (a band of adult performers from Corpus Christi and the region) and the Symphony Orchestra of the Corpus Christi Area Youth Orchestra (an ensemble of middle school and high school students from districts around South Texas). He publishes compositions and arrangements for various instrumental ensembles through his publishing imprint, Midwest Star Music. Dr. Shelton is or has been a member of Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Golden Key National Honors Society, College Band Directors National Association, College Music Society, National Association for Music Education, Texas Music Educators Association, and Texas Bandmasters Association. He resides in Corpus Christi, Texas, with his wife Claudia and his two children, Carly and Randall.
