Dr. Seth N. McKnight is an Assistant Professor of Music Education at Texas A&M University-Corpus, specializing in general music education. He previously held appointments at Augustana College and Western Illinois University. He spent seven years teaching music in the North Carolina public schools before transitioning to higher education.
Dr. McKnight's research interests include elementary music teachers' planning times, duties, schedules, and is currently investigating the invisible work of elementary music teachers. He also studies the ways in which popular music is integrated in the undergraduate music education curriculum. Dr. McKnight's publications can be found in Visions of Research in Music Education, the Orff Echo, and the Music Educator Journal. Additionally, he's given research presentations at the State and National Levels.
Dr. McKnight graduated high school from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts where he studied trombone with James T. Miller and earned his Bachelor of Music in Music Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he studied trombone with Royce E. Lumpkin. He earned his graduate degrees in music education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
In his free time, Dr. McKnight enjoys spending time on the Gulf coast, hosting dinner parties, and working out at the gym.
