Academic Affairs Welcomes New Special Assistant to the Provost

Academic Affairs welcomes Dr. Brenda Harms as Special Assistant to the Provost. Dr. Harms has served as a high-level consultant and senior leader at educational institutions and consulting firms for over 15 years, with expertise in strategic planning, academic program review, student recruitment and retention, and executing new initiatives.

The Special Assistant to the Provost is responsible for providing advisement on academic matters, serving on task forces and committees, designing and implementing programs, and handling complex issues in a manner that reflects institutional priorities.

According to Dr. Clarenda Phillips, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, “I am thrilled to welcome Dr. Harms to the Island. Her experience in strategic planning, academic initiatives, and student service will help us capitalize on the opportunities that lie before us. Dr. Harms’s collaborative leadership style and unique skillset will greatly benefit the Academic Affairs community.” 

Dr. Harms earned a PhD in Human Services from Capella University and a Master of Arts in Educational Psychology and Counseling at University of South Dakota. She also obtained a bachelor’s degree from University of South Dakota.
