Earn Your Ph.D. in Marine Biology
The Ph.D. in Marine Biology at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi prepares students to become independent scientists, research leaders, and innovators in marine biology. Working alongside internationally recognized faculty, students conduct original research, contribute new knowledge to the field, and develop the expertise needed to address complex biological and ecological challenges affecting marine organisms and ecosystems.
Through advanced coursework, field experiences, and dissertation research, doctoral students gain the scientific, analytical, and leadership skills needed for careers in academia, government, education, conservation, and industry.
Program Details
TAMU-CC's research-intensive marine biology doctoral program is designed for students who want to deepen scientific understanding of marine life and contribute to the future of marine biological research. Students work closely with faculty mentors and graduate advisory committees to design, conduct, and communicate original research while building expertise in their chosen area of specialization.
Students may enter the program with either a bachelor's or master's degree and follow an individualized degree plan tailored to their academic background and research interests. Coursework is combined with comprehensive examinations, dissertation research, professional presentations, and scholarly publication opportunities that prepare graduates for leadership roles in science and research.
Located on its own island campus along the Texas coast, Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi provides direct access to diverse and unique marine and coastal ecosystems, specialized laboratories, biological analytical facilities, marine population and ecosystem observation technologies, and research vessels that support wetland, coastal, and offshore investigations.
Researchers in Action
TAMU-CC's Marine Biology faculty and student researchers investigate topics spanning botany and phycology, microbiology, molecular, cellular, organismal and population biology, fisheries biology, aquaculture and mariculture, microbial interactions and microbiomes, anatomy, physiology, behavior, genetics, evolution, and marine and wetland ecology.
