Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi Earns Spot on 2026-2027 Colleges of Distinction List

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi has earned a place on the 2026-27 Colleges of Distinction list, joining a national group of institutions recognized for delivering on what the organization calls the Four Distinctions — Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes.

Colleges of Distinction identifies schools where students actively participate in their own education, faculty prioritize teaching and mentorship, campus life fosters real connection, and graduates leave prepared for careers, graduate study, or both.

Beyond the undergraduate recognition as a National College of Distinction, TAMU-CC also earned inclusion on eight additional lists: Texas, Public, Business, Education, Engineering, Nursing, Career, and Transfer.

“This distinction belongs to every faculty member who pushes students to think differently and every staff member who helps them find their footing,” said Dr. Cate Rudowsky, Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. “It’s proof that when we invest in how students learn, they carry that momentum well beyond graduation.”

That investment shows up early and often in a student’s journey. TAMU-CC has built out a network of mentoring programs, peer support initiatives, and retention efforts designed to keep students connected to the university and to each other, and university leaders point to that infrastructure as a key driver behind the honor.

“Our students have mentors, peer networks, and support systems to help them succeed,” said Dr. Leslie Mills, Associate Vice President for Student Success. “Seeing that work recognized nationally confirms what we already knew: engagement changes outcomes.”

Rather than relying solely on traditional ranking metrics like selectivity or test scores, Colleges of Distinction evaluates institutions based on how they support students from enrollment through graduation and beyond. For prospective students weighing their options, the recognition offers them a clearer picture of what daily life on a campus actually looks like.

“Families researching colleges want assurance that a university will invest in their student’s growth,” said Dr. Brenda Harms, Vice President for Enrollment Management. “This recognition tells them exactly that, and it reflects what our students experience from their first semester forward.”

TAMU-CC’s career preparation efforts, from internship placement to employer partnerships, reflect the same philosophy that runs through the rest of the recognition: student success does not end at commencement.

“We prepare students for not just their first job, but also their lifelong career success,” said Chau Hoang ’13, Director of the Career and Professional Development Center.

Colleges of Distinction leadership pointed to a shifting higher education landscape as the backdrop for this year’s honors, noting that students today face pressures previous generations did not.

“Today’s students are navigating a college landscape shaped by rising costs, rapid technological change, and real uncertainty about the future of work,” said Tyson Schritter, Chief Operating Officer at Colleges of Distinction. “What they need from higher education isn’t just a credential, but preparation for the world ahead. Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi delivers that through the kind of intentional, high-impact education that equips students for whatever comes next.”
